Atlantic salmon
farm in Clonlara
Land‑based RAS farm for premium Atlantic Salmon · 100% well water · No lice, no viruses · Integrated aquaponics to grow vegitables from fish waste-All in biosecure controlled environment for premium quality
The Clonlara RAS facility
100+ tonnes salmon
Closed tanks, pathogen‑free, no sea lice. 120 t premiume feed → 60 t organic waste for biogas.
Zero river abstraction
Dedicated groundwater well. Minimal filtered discharge – protects our rivers and Aquatic life.
Aquaponic greens
Soil‑less vegetables using recovered CO₂, heat and nutrients. Chemical‑free. No pesticides.
Biogas + solar
60 t waste → renewable electricity · solar PV · minimal grid import- fully sustainable and self reliance.
Recirculating Aquaculture & Aquaponics
Closed‑loop farming: fish, bacteria, plants and biogas work in synergy. We combine Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) with aquaponics to create a closed-loop, sustainable food production system in Ireland. The nutrient-rich water from our salmon tanks is then used to fertilize vegetables in our aquaponics greenhouse in soil less environment, creating a symbiotic relationship that produces two food sources from one system.
RAS – Recirculating Aquaculture System
Water from salmon tanks is continuously filtered and reused. Mechanical drums remove solids, biofilters convert ammonia to nitrate, and oxygen is replenished. >99% water reuse – only evaporation & sludge removed.
- Stock density: 70‑100 kg/m³ – fully controlled environment
- Optimal temp: 14°C year‑round, independent of seasons
- Biosecurity: No contact with wild fish, no lice treatments, no harmful chemical
Aquaponic & hydroponic integration
Nutrient‑rich water from the Fish feeds our soil‑less vegetable grow beds. No chemical fertilisers – we use mineralised fish waste to boost plant growth.
- Leafy greens: lettuce, spinach, herbs – pesticide‑free
- Deep water culture & NFT – 70% less water than field farming
- Disease‑free: closed environment eliminates pathogens
Circular bioeconomy
Fish biomas →waste → biogas → power → vegetables → local fertiliser
60 tonnes of waste, powers the farm and grows food. Leftover digestate is best organic fertiliser for local farmers.
Local revival
This farm brings 15‑20 permanent jobs to local community, supplier contracts, and footfall to support new amenities.
- 15‑20 full‑time roles (technicians, biologists, operators)
- Fertiliser for neighbouring farms
- Spin‑off: potential for local shops / cafes
- Training & apprenticeships
A sustainable employer strengthening rural Ireland – from farm to village.
